From Last week...
It seems we're getting faster, and more able to hold for longer periods of time at or above 170 bpm. I might consider raising the upper level of the zone to 175...

Asana

Thursday night Charles and I did our 108 surya namaskars.
The time passed pretty quickly. I'm happy I chose a 105/3 split between As and Bs. I was considering a 103/5 split. I think it would have been too much. Perhaps even way too much. It doesn't quite seem like that much more when you think about it...but I was just able to get through them as is was.

The down dog in the As was not held for one breath...it was exhale back, and inhale to standing right away. Bs were full versions with 5 breaths in down dog. You have never experienced a B surya namaskar until you preceed it with 105 As.

I envisioned the 108 names of god in front of me and the 108 defilements behind me.

It's Saturday as I write this and I ache all over...my hamstrings are just starting to rebuild...I think they'll be crying for attention come tomorrow night.

From this site...

Investigating 108

The number 108 is where my research into the meaning of sacred numbers started. 108 x 260 = 28080 These five digits represent the core fractal of the Arcturian Shield Program.

The number 108 is as profound as the Sacred Number 260, the number of the Sacred Count or Tzolkin of the indigenous Maya and Olmecs of Mesoamerica.

In Thailand there is a Massive Reclining Golden Buddha. The statue resides in the Grand Palace which has a huge compound surrounded by high white walls. The compound is about 260 hectares. On each of the Buddha's feet are 108 sacred symbols in laid with mother of pearl.

The number 108 is seen as sacred in many different cultures.

The Kanjur is a major section of the Tibetan Buddhist Canon, consisting of the words of the Buddha, attributed directly to Shakyamuni. It is collected in 108 volumes.

The number 108 is used in Islam to refer to God.

The Sikh tradition has a mala of 108 knots tied in a string of wool, rather than beads.

In the Krishna tradition, there were said to be 108 gopis or maid servants of Krishna.

108 is said to refer to the number of Hindu deities. Each of the deities has 108 names.

The Vedanta, according to the Hinduist tradition, recognizes 108 authentic doctrines (Upanishad) aiming to approach the Truth and to destroy ignorance.

In the Jain religion, 108 is the number of combined virtues in the five categories of the holy ones, 12 + 8 + 36 + 25 + 27 virtues respectively = 108
There are 54 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. Each has masculine and feminine, shiva and shakti. 54 times 2 is 108.

There are 108 forms of dance in the Indian traditions.

On the Sri Yantra there are marmas where 3 lines intersect, and there are 54 such intersections. Each intersections has masculine and feminine, shiva and shakti qualities. 54 times 2 equals 108.

The chakras are the intersections of all the energy lines of the subtle bodies. There are a total of 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra. One of them, sushumna leads to the crown chakra, and is said to be the path to Self-realization.

Marmas or marmastanas are like the energy intersections called chakras, except they have fewer energy lines converging to form them. There are 108 marmas in the subtle bodies.

The above image shows how the Giza platau is 108 minutes south of Jerusalam.

The Temple of Re-Harakhte (The Sun Temple of Ramesses II)
The main temple was dedicated to Ramesses II and to the four universal gods Ptah, Re-Harakhte, Amun-Re, and to Ramesses II himself. Of the seven temples he built, Abu Simbel is considered to be the most impressive. The facade of the main temple is 108 feet high and 125 feet wide with four colossal seated statues about 65 feet high wearing the double crown and having the cartouches of Ramesses II.
The number 108 is highly auspicious in the Buddhist religion.

The Chinese Buddhists and Taoists use a 108 bead mala ("rosaries"), which is called su-chu, and has three dividing beads. The mala is divided into three parts of 36 each.

According to Chinese tradition one needs to walk 10800 LI to find Wisdom.

All major schools of Buddhism have long recognized the existence of 108 Defilements, which are so named because these faults cause both the body and mind to be afflicted and to suffer. Upon the exhaustion or elimination of the 108 Defilements through shugyo (the austere practice of bodymind transcendence), one enters a state of enlightenment. The allegory of 108 steps leading up to Buddhist temples now become clear. As each of the steps are climbed a defilement is symbolically eliminated, the seeker's true nature becomes less and less obscured and afflicted as they ascend the way. By the time the shrine is reached, the seeker is symbolically ready for enlightenment, the state of non-suffering.

The occurrences of 108 steps leading to Buddhist temples are common. Sometimes they rise in a single flight. Depending on the terrain, they might consist of two flights of 54 steps or three flights of 36 steps.

Beginning just before midnight on New Year's Eve, bells in Buddhist temples are rung 108 times to announce the passing of the old year and the coming of the new. It is said that humans are beset by 108 ill or earthly passions and that each stroke of the gong dispels one."

108 Brahmins were invited to the naming ceremony at the birth of the Buddha.
Astrological investigations of 108

"The key to full explanation of the "Sons of God" List is the total of 108 sars. We see the significance of 108 1080 to astronomy in the comparable Hebrew astronomical calendar. Since 360 x 3 = 1080 allows finer division, the Hebrews divided an "hour", i.e. one full turn of a 360 degree astronomical "clock", into 1080 subdivisions called HALAQIM. The usage of the number 1080 may also reflect ancient knowledge that precession moves 1° in 72 years. In 1080 years precession is 15°, one half-month of the precessional "great year". http://www.lexiline.com/lexiline/lexi31.htm
The ancient cultures divided the sky into 36 "night stations" of stars. These could be divided into a total of 108 (36 x 3) segments or SARS (Latvian ZAR = "branch") for better detail. I simply calibrated the data by potentiating 108 by 10 to get 1080 (= 360 x 3) and then dividing by 3. This was applied to the individual "reigns" of the kings. To get the degrees of arc of the circle. For example, we potentiate 20 sars x 10 = 200. Then we divide by 3, which gives 66.66 degrees (of 360 degrees). When we do this with all of the lengths of reign, the total is 360°" http://www.lexiline.com/lexiline/lexi31.htm

108 as the Self Existing Star

The Kin Signature of Yellow Self-Existing Star is 108 This kin is intimately linked with the Great Star of Arcturus, Guardian of the Great Bear. It is from this association that the ASP received it's name. 108 is the Shield Glyph of the Arcturans.

So Sick

Sick sick sick...
Wednesday started out with just a little cough...
Ended in shivers and aches...have been miserable for over 2 days now...
The good news is I can keep food down, and have a bit of an appetite.
The bad news is that I had been sick just 2 weeks ago.

On the Career Front

For several months now I've been doing a job I really don't like.
I mean really...It was depressing me. Loren will attest...

Several years back I had made a career decision to get out of sales. And here I was right back in it...

I had a chat with the managers from both departments (old and new) explained that I was of more use to the company in my previous position, as a technical trainer. The manager who hired me was right, I had the right skills for the position What he didn't know was whether I had the drive...how was he to know...or I for that matter??

I am dealing with a slight sense of failure, as this was an opportunity to grow in the company and have a more mature position.
Though I was working against the odds... I could not see where I would get my reward (it didn't pay much more). Personally I find training/teaching a very rewarding undertaking.

And after a meeting with HR and a couple of e-mails and signatures I am now back in my old, and preferred position.

Thanks be to God.

Asana

From Last week's Thursday night session...
Colin couldn't make it, so it was Gilles Charles and I.
We did 18 sun sals from the 108 CD 15 As and 3 Bs, then typical 5 As and 5 Bs, then standing poses up to parsvotanasana.

Charles brought the ingredients for his baked brie garlic and sun dried tomatoes snack...yumm!

Colin's in Texas this week, so it'll probably be the same three tomorrow night.
