GAS

Was nice last night. Temperatures above 30C... Colin tried to persuade us to go to their deck and have cool summer refreshments. I declined on behalf of the group and insisted that we do our yoga practice. He complied...

And Hannah came along last night... I jokingly said that she was joing due to the fact that I've now named it a "society".

Gilles brought home made burrito, Colin breads and cheeses (including an extremely tasty feta) tomatos, Christine pinapple and lime (which we melted chocolate on... 85%). Charles and Donald were absent...

We did 5 and 5 sun sals, padangusth and padahasta followed by 3 times the warrior sequense from utkatasana, and the final 3 poses. We did a 10 minute-plus relaxation with some of Christine's music... excellent experience, which would be difficult if Charles were present.
We're taking baby steps... Charles now knows he's not allowed to be the first guy up after relaxation.

And wrapped up before 21:30... really an excellent evening.

Oka

Excellent ride at Oka on sunday... stats to come.
Weather was perfect... directions to get there kinda muddy.
Gio, Rick and Doug. Doug first ride on new bike (canondale) and spd pedals.
Simple trails until you venture down the chute from the cabin. Some really steep stuff, me and Gio did that stuff solo.

I brought my pedal wrench to swap on Doug's bike... and rode it down for the last decent... head shock and discbreaks and wide handlebars and all!!!

Jilly-Bean

Nice evening with my sister last night. A short vist with Loren and me, and then we went to play some guitar. she was teaching me a Zachary Richard tune, I think it's called Au Bord du Lac Bijou. We had fun, and we'll prpbably have a few more songs we can play together next time she passes by (I'm going to earn a few).

Florence was quite well behaved... she's getting big now though I have no real idea how old she is. If she dosen't start speaking socially soon I suspect it'll have some developmental reprecussions. I thanked her for being well behaved and for letting me spend time with Jill, that that was important to me since we didn't get much chance to visit with each other during the normal year.

Varia

Got an apple on the tree. It's it's first summer... have Barbara to thank for that. Planting, watering (cross fertilizing??) Got some pictures someplace. Barbara was thinking I should harvest it end of September... though it had fallen to the ground on Saturday. I rushed out to get it as I saw it just before doing the 108. Was like a little offering.

Rearranged the music room. Soundboard near drum kit now... didn't have to shift the kit at all... the board just fit into the corner. Put the wall mounted brackets on the little AR speakers and ran the speaker cables outside the room in the ceiling and fed them through little drilled holes, looks neat on the inside now, and there's lots of room for other musicians now, even with Corey's drumkit still set up. Colin and Gilles stayed late one Thursday and we jammed a bit, Glens old bass Doug's borrowed practice amp and the acoustic guitar, it was quite a bit of fun.

Have been in touch with Ed for the first time since back from Japan... apparently they've had a hard time with the kitchen fire and ensuing repair work... Ed says he hasn't told anybody the story yet, though he says it makes their story about roof repair look like a walk in the park... poor guys...

Am also in touch with Ronnie, a guy that Gio hires for freelance work. Turns out he's an accomplished drummer, I'm looking into 1 lesson every 2 months, we've got to establish if he's interested to work with me. He may want to take only serious students... we'll see...

Gio was over Tuesday night and helped me get the fridge over to 295. I gave it good cleaning and stocked it for a few weeks of the GAS. Now I'll be able to keep some leftovers, instead of sendng them all away.

I don't generally play the lotto. Maybe once a year ro so. Typically when a co-worker gets a pool going or the likes... a few weeks back I got a hunch to play and easily found my numbers. Checked the ticket Sunday night while I was doing groceries, and I was almost surprised I had a billet non-gagnant. Funny.

Loren and I had a pretty nice weekend, including having Doreen over Friday night. Should have taken some pix of that meal. Loren did a white sauce, I sauteed scallops. We served it on pasta, it was very yum yum yummy!!

Finished reading Yoga and the Quest for the True Self, by Stephen Cope. Eeesh! He does shed some interesting light on subtle ways to consider yoga (not just asana). Though it was really hard reading for me, Cope is soooo heavy-handed. I've suspected that Kripalu is a magnet for kooks from heresay over the years. But this book seals the deal for me. Most of the book reads like an effort made by Cope, to once-an-for-all establish that he is a valid yoga teacher. I even get the impression that Cope himself feels that his 10 year plus stay at Kripalu was of little value and needed an opportunity to justify his stay there, perhaps even to keep himself from depression. It was very awkward reading.

Asana

For the past while Thursday nights (GAS see Asana entry) have been proceeding like this; 3As, 3Bs, padangusthasana, padahasth, and then the warrior sequence starting with ukatasana through to vira II repeated either 3 or 4 times, then prep for back bend, then final three, or 4 if uutpluthi (5 breaths) is counted. This is mainly because Gilles has injured his hamstring. It was injured before I went to Tokyo, and is still recovering... come to hink about it I should send him the link on the ashtanga board so he'll know how easy he got off...

Loren and I have taken to a gentle Wednesday night practice at 295, though the past 2 weeks I've made other plans.

This Saturday I put the mat down and did 108 sunsals. For the first 10 minutes or so I was considering that I could do this once a week... towards the last dozen or so I was thinking not so much... perhaps once a month like I was considering oh probably a year or so ago... we'll see.

Sunday night I did 3 sunsals 1A and 2Bs. (Hamstrings still wondering what hit them after the 108) That's going to be the new routine. I've decided this as my first full week after the Hong Kong course passed and I still can't wake up early. I've been completely exhasuted. Not a mood thing this time simply energy. So the weekly routine is 3 sunals before bed each night Monday through Friday and Thursday night GAS. And I'm goingto try to also get to the gym early to kick-start morning practice. At first I'll just go for the sauna and steamroom... starting tomorrow...

[And now that tomorrow is today, I'm happy to report got to the gym for 07:00... and I think 06:00 is in my sights!!]
