Tartan army invasion?

Over the weekend a group of us went over the Practice Place in Edinburgh to take part in their led primary class. It was a bit of a field trip, a chance for everyone to get out and away from our own place and experience the energy and warmth from a new teacher and a different shala.

The teacher's approach was very gentle, very calm and relaxed. Her view of no-ahimsa during your practice came up time and time again, though the guy practicing next to me told me afterwards that some of the other teachers you barely survive their classes, with this teacher you hardly break sweat. Anyways, teaching styles a part, the group invariably enjoyed the class. I'm a bit more full on, I have to admit, though it's always good for me to let things sly and as John Scott suggested, have a sloppier practice, and feel the flow a bit more. One of the girls, who's always last to finish practice, really enjoyed herself, so much so that she lined up a 1-2-1 with the teacher afterwards.

In the restaurant afterwards, talk naturally turned to all things yoga, and potential trips to Mysore. Out of the 6 of us that were there, only 1 said she wouldn't go to Mysore, but only cos her finances wouldn't allow it. There's a core group here, and with any luck there might be a bit of a Scottish invasion of Mysore come christmas time.

Primary with Sharath

Yesterday's Mysore group had a special 'visitor'. I'd got a hold of Sharath's CD from New York and played it to the group of students. I pointed out a couple of things that he says that might be new to them. What he means by 'up' and that some of the breathing sequences (UHP) are way more specific than the teacher here goes through in her led class on a Thursday. 4 brave souls turned up, including the drop-in from Friday. Pheww. I thought maybes I'd put her off but obviously not. Was releaved to see her still in one piece.

It was weird in a nice way to be adjusting the class whilst Sharath counted out the vinyasas. It gave me a bit more time to prep before hand as everyone was at the same spot at the same time (except at Garbha Pindasana - man, he goes supper quick through that!!) though that meant only 1 adjustment per asana where in a mysore class I can sometimes get the same adjustment to different people as they get to the posture at different times.

Energy in the room was great, even though there was only the 5 of us. Tempo's just fantastic so if you're thinking of getting a hold of his CD then do it. It's well worth the money.

The stuff Sharath chants at the end of the class is just beautiful too!

Busy week ahead, though I've got Friday off now as I worked in here on Saturday! Yippeee !!
