God, India!!! After practice this morning, which went well (except for my burning arms, which have reappeared), I went home, showered and headed out for breakfast yay!!! food... kid number one on his bicycle tried to sell me a stolen "english language" newspaper, kid number two on his bicycle was watching the encounter and as soon as kid no. 1 left, kid no. 2 started pedaling and tried, in a very forceful way to grab my boob. He only got some of my very long hair (ouch) and my shoulder. I was a bit shocked and just turned and stared (and gave him the finger, which means nothing to him). I should have screamed, but I did not. It's one of those ridiculous things that happens on rare occasion, but sucks. It just makes me wonder what the fuck they are thinking. They think it's ok to just grab boobs... I was dressed like an Indian lady too..
Yesterday was a long and wonderful day. I got up and took a rickshaw to Kumar's house. I can't believe I remembered how to get there. Yay!! I sat there while they cooked and did puja and then we ate a little breakfast and all (his family and I) piled into his little vehicle and off we were for the day to Talakadu, a temple recently uncovered from being buried in the sand. the ride was long and the road was bad. He kept telling me how bad the road was, as if I did not notice.... He told me his wife has been asking him to take her there for the last five years. But "because of this bad road, she is not wanting to come again". I sat in the front and only got freaked out a few times. We had to drive through small villages, which i love and finally after over 2 hours, we made the 50km. We walked around the area and learned all about the temples it was fun. Then we drove to the river and had lunch where we were being accosted by monkeys and crows. After that we took a ride in the basket boat, my favorite....
We then journeyed the two hours back home for fruit and coffee (yes, I drank coffee, but it was Indian style with more milk than coffee and more sugar than milk).
I got back to gokulam, wiped out and ready for some down time .
I love in the picture how they believe driving "slowely" will save you from a weak bridge. ahh....

WTF?! Where do they learn that stuff? Movies? Well, boob grab averted, that's good to hear.
I'm sitting at work listening to wo-pop, indian music, thinking about you in India.

i don't know where they learn it and why they think it is ok, or maybe they know it is not ok, but just feel like they HAVE to do it and know it would not be possible to try on an Indian lady... anyway, all is fine.. I am sooooooooooooo sleepy today, but have to go back to the city to get our mattress and give Kumar money and get some oil lamps. that seems like a lot for an evening, but will do.
hope you are well...miss you guys.

Towards the end of my India trip, I spoke to some local Delhi women about how to handle boob/ass grabs. The ladies advised slipping off a shoe, and using it to whack the offender. They matter-of-factly explained that there's nothing more disgusting and humiliating than getting slapped by a shoe, and that plenty of Indian women respond to grabbers in this fashion.
The behavior is definitely lewd and obnoxious, but you can't lament it without bearing in mind all those images of the mischievous baby Krishna squeezing milk maids' nipples...

The statistics are really astonishing, the stakes are typically massive, it really is challenging to talk about and even more challenging to do something about it. Technologies, guidance, communication... each of them compete with human nature. And each circumstance is different.
